Full Title: The Insane and The Law: A Plain Guide For Medical Men, Solicitors, and Others, (I) The Detention and Treatment; (II) Maintenance; (II) Civil and Criminal Responsibility; and (IV) Capacity Either (a) To Give Evidence or (b) to Make a Will, of Persons Mentally Afflicted; With Hints to Medical Witnesses and to Cross-Examining Counsel. The Right Honorable Henry Lopes, 1st Baron Ludlow (1828-1899) was a Queen's Counsel, Justice of the Common Pleas, and Lord Justice of Appeal throughout his legal career. Author George Pitt-Lewis was of the Liberal Party and sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1892, almost exactly the duration of Lopes' time as Lord Justice of Appeal. Pitt-Lewis refers to Lopes as Lord Justice multiple times throughout their correspondence. Signed first edition of The Insane and The Law by George Pitt-Lewis, with an inscription to The Right Honorable Henry Lopes, 1st Baron Ludlow. (illustrator). Signed.
