Seller: David Hallinan, Bookseller, Columbus, MS, U.S.A.
Unpaged - 8 pages including covers. Staple-bound paperback brochure: H 15.25cm x L 21cm. Paper covers lightly soiled and foxed; small stain at rear cover's with last leaf lightly affected likewise; slender abrasion along spine fold. Some interior foxing. Binding is firm. "Front cover supplies title "D.C. Should Not Stand for Disorder and Crime" with pages 3-6 featuring "Statement of Richard M. Nixon Washington D.C. Saturday, June 22, 1968." With brief text and via a few b/w photos and one graph, the booklet attempts to establish urban civil unrest as a scare-tactic issue to the Republican voter while positioning Nixon as the tough-on-crime candidate. An interesting example of American negative political advertising which, while not explicitly stating that the D.C. riots were the fault of Democratic Party policies and leadership, it certainly angles the reader to make the link while hailing the low-crime era of the Eisenhower administration. Race-baiting election propaganda from the man who was, until recently, the most vile individual to ever hold the esteemed office. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. {AmHist-Shelf#3|CVA-01544}.
