Together with 24 illustrations in the text. A good copy in original dark olive buckram, backstrip slightly faded and a little rubbed at the head. (Bridson & Wakeman Printmaking & picture printing A47; Levis Descriptive bibliography of books relating to. engraving p108-9) Levis notes that 'The [last] chapter [Books on Engraving] is brief and not very satisfactory, but all the others are of great interest', while Bridson & Wakeman note that the text of this work originally appeared as a series of articles in the ninth edition of Encyclopædia Britannica.

Illustrations in the text & 23 seperate plates demonstrating different illustration methods. Includes original etchings by Manesse Gaillard, Frank Short, Flameng etc. Original cloth binding with gilt cover and spine titles. Top edge gilt. Top edge of spine lacks approx 1cm and lower edge of spine slighty worn. Corners a touch worn. Spine a little darkened. front hinge a little pulled but still secure. No d/w (as issued??).

Coloured and illuminated frontis., 22 plates, printed separately from the text, many with tissue guards, plus other illustrations to text, some of these also full page. One of the 22 plates which was meant to be a mezzotint has been replaced by a stunning hand-coloured plate of a market girl. Endpapers browned, half-title partially loose otherwise a lovely copy.

Good-, ex lib, lithograph is clean but loose, untrimmed pages.
