Together with 24 illustrations in the text. A good copy in original dark olive buckram, backstrip slightly faded and a little rubbed at the head. (Bridson & Wakeman Printmaking & picture printing A47; Levis Descriptive bibliography of books relating to. engraving p108-9) Levis notes that 'The [last] chapter [Books on Engraving] is brief and not very satisfactory, but all the others are of great interest', while Bridson & Wakeman note that the text of this work originally appeared as a series of articles in the ninth edition of Encyclopædia Britannica.

One of the 22 plates which was meant to be a mezzotint has been replaced by a stunning hand-coloured plate of a market girl. Endpapers browned, half-title partially loose otherwise a lovely copy.
