To date, eighteen complete or fragmentary manuscripts of the text have been identified which document the circulation and dissemination of the text during the later thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. A recently discovered partially preserved text of the commentary written into the margins of an incunabulum of the Metamorphoses in the British Library now demonstrates that the commentary was still being read as late as 1475 and that humanistic readers of the poem considered it significant enough to copy into their printed editions.
