Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. "The Buffoon" by Louis V. Wilkinson is an amazing novel for a number of reasons, not the least being the embedded caricature of novelist John Cowper Powys (the character Jack Welsh), poets Ezra Pound (the character Raoul Root), and Hilda Doolittle (the character Eunice Dinwiddie) and the author of the book himself, Louis Wilkinson, who is represented by the character Edward Raynes (the Buffoon) . The book is dedicated to Frances Gregg, Wilkinson's wife, who was also a co-author. It was from Frances Gregg that the portrait of Powys derived. It is a portrait that is somewhat harsh; Powys had been in love with Gregg - it seems they were involved - or perhaps she is the great "unrequited love" of Powys' life during those years (1914 and post-war years). Anyway - "The Buffoon" is a delicious romp - a fascinating portrait in fiction of a generation of massively creative people living on the edges and within the heart of bohemian society. This is the 1975 reprint in paperback format from Village Press of London. The book is once again Out of Print (OP). TITLE : The Buffoon AUTHOR : Louis u. Wilkinson IMPRINT : Village Books PLACE : London DATE : 1975 EDITION : Reprint. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book that remains solid and clean, with the following particulars noted : Its a solid copy, clean and presentable which has but modest signs of handling : there is a minor bump or impact to the fore-edge which caused small creasing to a few top leaf tips, as well as a small scuff to the fore-edge; there is, as well, a slight bump to the top front edge next to the spine - this is of near-negligible effect - else the book seems unread, with the spine uncreased and the binding tight.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, a journey of self-discovery, embarks on a quest to understand the antics of human nature. Steering clear of any self-serious exploration, the author instead approaches this matter with a sardonic and humorous perspective, leaping from one amusing episode to the next. Central to this work is the concept of a 'buffoon', a recurring figure who assumes various guises throughout history and across different societiesâ"a complex and contradictory character who both repels and enchants in equal measure. The author examines how these buffoonsâ"whether they be artists, philosophers, or eccentricsâ"often find themselves trapped in a cycle of self-sabotage, subverting their own true desires and potentials. An insightful and thought-provoking read, this book uncovers the powerful role these often-misunderstood figures play in the human comedy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
