Paperback. Condition: New. Chris Minaar is a distinguished South African writer, an old writer, but a writer who has lost whatever gift he had for writing. It is on New Year's Eve, courtesy of his stalled car, that he meets Rachel, a young sculptress who becomes the great love of his life, a love greater for being unfulfilled. He finds himself captivated by Rachel and drawn into a close friendship with her husband. As their friendship develops, Chris must reconcile himself to an unaccustomed type of intimacy but one that inevitably threatens this precarious triangular relationship. Woven through this is the story of his life and of a lifetime's loving. For he has known many women. As it becomes clear that this book is the final writing act of Chris's creative life, so we understand that these recollections are an attempt to bring order to an otherwise chaotic existence. Before I Forget is the history of a life set against the history of a nation, and the history of a transforming love.…

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. Special Edition. Advance Reading Copy in paperback of first American edition. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in Fine condition. "Chris Minaar is a distinguished South African writer who has lost his gift for the word--that is, until he loses Rachel, the last great love of his life. BEFORE I FORGET is Chris's final creative act. It is an assembly of all the beautiful and ugly pieces of his existence, defined by the women he has loved. There have been brief affairs, extended relationships, and a tragically ended marriage, all of which have left their indelible marks. Erotic, candid, and elegiac, this is the history of a man's life set against the history of a nation and, more than anything, it is a rich tribute to the beauty and power of love." [publisher copy] "BEFORE I FORGET is a novel by a writer at the peak of his craft."--Times Literary Supplement (London). "There is so much grace, dignity and passion fused in Brink's work that, compared to it, most contemporary novels will seem spare and lacking, mean-spirited or horribly self-indulgent."--San Francisco Chronicle. "Peter Carey, Garcia Marquez, Solzhenitsyn: Andre Brink must be considered with that class of writer."--Guardian. Pristine paperback ARC w/sharp corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding w/no creases in spine & no jacket as issued.…

paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…
