paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Paperback. Condition: New. X Agendas for Architecture considers the recent developments in the agendas for architecture, inviting a range of contributors into a structured discourse to highlight issues and extend questions on the necessity of architectural agendas. Considering the recent developments on this topic, this speculative publication hopes to collate ideas from architectural professionals to the up-and-coming generation of agenda-makers and use their knowledge over these current issues of agenda to create a book of seminal discourse for any architecture enthusiast. In 2011 the Delft University of Technology architecture research group Borders & Territories organised a symposium and lecture series entitled X Agendas for Architecture in which architects, theoreticians and scholars gave presentations of their work. The lecture series focused on four themes that were considered relevant for current architectural and scholarly practices, "Aesthetics of Sustainable Architecture", "Territories of Drawing, History", "Collective Memory and Politics" and "Experimentation in Architectural Design".Centred around these themes, X Agendas for Architecture is located in the desire to formulate a clear statement with respect to issues deemed important and fundamental. Includes 26 essays from contributors such as Marcis Cruz, Manuel Gauza, Sarah Lorenzen, Martine de Maeseneer, Leonel Moura, Christopher Platt, Javier Quintana, Michiel Riedijk, Francois Roche, Patrick Schumacher, Alejandro Zaera-Polo and Weimin Zhuang.…

Soft cover. Condition: New. 24.9 x 17 cm, illustrated,120 pp. 'Given today's multitude of demands on the built environment, the role of the architect has extended from being a mere designer and builder to acting as a mediator within a much larger network of expertise. This mediation takes place on multiple levels within the building industry, between public, clients and designers, and between public, clients and designers, and between the actual design and its environment. To achieve this, the field of work, the tools of design and the representation of architects needs to develop. The architect has to design the design process itself. Mediating Architecture demonstrates the extended role of the architect through the applied work of AA's Diploma Unit 14 within London's Thames Gateway over three consecutive years. A series of essays reflect this methodology from the multi-disciplinary perspectives of architecture, urban design, landscape design and philosophy.'.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - An examination of the complex connections in St. Louis among modern architecture, urban renewal, and racial and spatial change. Design Agendas: Modern Architecture in St. Louis, 1930s-1970s features essays on the modernist architects Charles E. Fleming, R. Buckminster Fuller, Eric Mendelsohn, and Gyo Obata by contributing scholars Shantel Blakely, John C. Guenther, Kathleen James-Chakraborty, and Winifred Elysse Newman, as well as a memoir by Michael E. Willis, FAIA, NOMA. Editor and architectural historian Eric P. Mumford situates the work of these architects and others within the context of St. Louis urban development against the midcentury backdrop of New Deal planning, the Great Migration, and the civil rights and Great Society eras. Most of the featured architectural works were created in a period of de facto racial segregation, an era that is now known for its often racist and destructive modernist urban planning, such as the Pruitt-Igoe public housing project (1950-56) and the clearance of the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood with its twenty thousand African American residents (1959). These and other urban renewal initiatives were also part of several interlocking design agendas that used modern architecture and planning to propose and express new and then thought to be more liberating, ideas about social organization and forms of architecture and planning. This publication adds to the small but growing number of studies on modern architecture in St. Louis. …
