Hardcover. Condition: New. The painting Qingming Shang He Tu (Scenes along the River during the Qingming Festival ), painted on light-colored silk measuring 24.8cmX 528.7cm and bearing Emperor Huizong s signature, is presently preserved in the Palace Museum in Beijing. It is considered to be one of the most brilliant works in Chinese art history. As a genre painting, it focuses on themes related to daily life, depicting the hustle and bustle in the early twelfth-century city of Bianjing (modern-day Kaifeng), then the capital of Northern Song Dynasty, as its citizens celebrate the Qingming Festival. Attached to the back of the scroll are annotations which were written over the course of several dynasties.…

Accordion bound, 11" x 8.5", 18 panels, printed on silk, hand colored, hand printed facsimile chops, brocade boards, printed title label, fine. The original "Along the River" was painted by Zhang Zeduan during the Song Dynasty around 900-1200 AD. Its popularity is likened to that of the Mona Lisa, and artists throughout history have replicated and updated it, with over half a dozen notable reproductions. This facsimile is from a copy by Zhao Mengfu, likely painted in the late 13th century, with additional annotations and a postscript. …

Contact seller5-star seller4to. [20 pp (unnumbered)], illustrated throughout, and printed in red & black on gold silk, bound in accordion-style format, w/ embossed gray silk covers, printed label mounted on front cover, rounded corners (minor shelfwear, slight rubbing, very minor bowing to covers, slight soiling to couple leaves at lower fore-edge imperceptible on image), still an excellent copy. First edition, thus, of this exceedingly scarce and deluxe Japanese production of the famed Song Dynasty painting by Zhang Zeduan (1085-1145) capturing daily life, street, and river scenes during the Qingming Festival in Bianjing (Kaifeng}. This painting is considered one of the great treasures of China, and the Song Dynasty original and the Qing dynasty originals are preserved as national treasures in Beijing and Taipei respectively. The long sprawling work includes 100s of human figures, period boats, sedan chairs, temples, merchants working, peddlers, jugglers, monks, and a boat nearly crashing into the central bridge. Contact seller2-star sellerQuarto. The National Library of Australia estimates the large accordion style Chinese classic printed on gold silk was issued between 1912 and 1926 and suggests it came from Japan. The online copy of this issue is noted as exceptionally scarce and is available for viewing from their website #6333308. Our copy usually has the stamped in red letters below the image instead of over it as is evidenced in their online version. Very rare with most of the reprints online having been issued after 2009. Certainly, the original, which is the National Palace Museum in Beijing, PRC exists in an almost prefect copy with most of the original details intact. It was issued as a scroll and is usually displayed in a glass case though the original would have been viewed one section at a time, beginning from the right end. Most of the scholarship presupposes that the city depicted in the scroll is the Northern Song capital of Kaifeng thus the Bian River would be the one presented here. However, Valerie Hansen of Yale University has argued that the scroll is a depiction of an idealized city rather than a specific city of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). A very nice copy bound in a dark brown silk brocade cloth, decorative paper label, no tears, names or bookplates.…

Add to basketCondition: Gut bis sehr gut. China - Früher Druck nach Quinming auf Seidenleinen - - Along the River During the Qingming Festival -- Scroll on silk Zhang Zeduan. Qingmíng Shànghé Tú (sinice: Die Qingming-Rolle). Druck auf braunem Seidenleinen. 25,5 x 528 cm. China 19. Insgesamt wohlerhalten. An early reprint of the famous Qingming Scroll by the painter Zhang Zeduan (1085-1145), created during the Song Dynasty, depicting the numerous festivities of the Qingming Festival—the Chinese memorial festival in April (the 106th day of the solar calendar)—along the river in the city of Kaifeng. While rural life is depicted at the edges, the streets are brought to life by urban scenes along the riverfront of the former capital, set against the backdrop of magnificent buildings. There are nearly 1,000 people depicted, ranging from farm and field workers, herdsmen, cart drivers, and artisans to precision mechanics, goldsmiths, merchants, and even strolling passersby visiting the numerous inns depicted. Particularly impressive is the large bridge in the center of the scroll, toward which all the scenes seem to converge—and which a ship is just about to pass under, its sailors unlikely to manage to lower the massive mainmast in time. It is precisely this dramatic tension that has made the scroll painting so popular and beloved, leading to it being copied and reproduced time and again. From right to left—true to the original—are the scenes, here particularly beautifully rendered in the finest line engraving, likely printed from woodblocks onto silk-linen. - Rolled and showing slight rolling marks as a result. The edges at the beginning and end show slight creases and minor signs of wear; slightly browned in places; otherwise, the print is in good condition and rich in contrast. Overall, well-preserved.…
