"Owsei Temkin was a director of the Institute of the History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Temkin was known as one of the world's foremost experts on the interaction of medicine and culture throughout history. He published hundreds of articles and a dozen books on the history of medicine, including the history and philosophy of Greco-Arabic medicine. His book, The Falling Sickness, a study of views on epilepsy through the ages, has achieved wide renown. Dull mauve cloth cover. 45 pp.; only flaws with book are a few faintly darker patches to front cover near outer bottom corner and slightest hint to fading to outer edges where exposed by jacket; unclipped jacket is marred by a fairly large grease stain to front lower outer corner, edge browning and shallow rippling to back beside spine and top outer edge, edges actually virtually unworn, will add protective sleeve when ordered. A fierce attack on Snow's 'Two Cultures' concept with reprinting of Yudkin's which also attacks Snow from a different direction (and with perhaps a trifle less ferocity!). A crucial document for anyone interested in this early 1960s intellectual spat.
