Adjutant-General in the Military Department in Michigan and determined to write a one volume narrative of military operations in the civil war that did not "interlace civil and political history" in the narrative. Illustrated with steel engravings of Lincoln, Grant and Farragut (some foxing to engravings), and a two page map. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings or previous owner names. It is an uncommon item in the original edition (this is not a reprint).
