This popularly written history is a survey of the chief operations of the war with basic section headings being: The Army of the Potomac; Central Departments; Sherman's Great March; The United States Navy, etc. Each section has sub headings for battles or other operations. Humphrey includes several appendices including a list of all volunteer General Officers and all US Army officers in 1860. Good+ copy of the first edition. The book has a little shelf wear and what looks like an old ink stain roughly 1 inch by 2 inches on the bottom right corner of the back cover. Strong binding, no dust jacket. 691 pages.
