Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. While Savannah's famous urban plan is rightly renowned in many studies of urban history, what brings streams of tourists and architects to the city, and daily engages residents with its fascinating history, are not abstract principles of urban planning but a compelling fabric of buildings interacting with and shaping their built or natural settings. Buildings of Savannah, the first city guide from the Society of Architectural Historians' Buildings of the United States series, is a comprehensive, authoritative, and up-to-date guide to that dynamic built environment. Featuring over 350 buildings, landscapes, monuments, squares, and parks, enhanced and enlivened by 175 photographs and 21 maps, this book draws on new scholarship to document the city's familiar landmarks while it surveys the impressive range of Savannah's architecture in the city and beyond, including such fundamental but often-overlooked aspects as industrial and suburban architecture, midcentury modernism, and African American buildings and neighborhoods. Investigating broadly from the Riverfront to Tybee Island and from James Oglethorpe's six original wards to the Central of Georgia Railroad complex and beyond--including such well-known sites as the Mercer Williams House (celebrated for its role in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil), the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (who founded the Girl Scouts of America), Fort Pulaski, and Wormsloe Plantation-- Buildings of Savannah is an essential resource for all those who wish to know, understand, and preserve the architectural fabric of this unique and intriguing place. Offers a comprehensive, authoritative, and up-to-date guide to the dynamic built environment of Savannah. Featuring over 350 buildings, landscapes, monuments, squares, and parks, enhanced and enlivened by 175 photographs and 21 maps, this book draws on new scholarship to document the city's familiar landmarks while it surveys the impressive range of Savannah's architecture. First Edition. Original privately printed 118 page shooting script for the Robin Williams film The Big White written by Collin Friesen. Signed by Robin Williams to a member of the crew: ÒTo Tim, you give great location, Robin WilliamsÓ at a color photo of Robin Williams in character. Beautifully bound in gold cloth and quarter gold leather with decorative stamping to the front board and spine, marble endpapers, 8 5/8 inches by 11 1/4 inches. All edges are gilt. Fine. Unbeknownst to the many admirers of Robin Williams was that he was a lover of books. Over the years, Williams had his own private press specially printing on fine papers and handsomely binding editions of the screenplays of some of the films he appeared in. They were all printed in very small quantities. Williams would sign them and then they would be sent to members of the cast and crew of the productions. As a unique item, this is a special opportunity to honor and celebrate WilliamsÕs love of his craft, his love of books, and his appreciation of the people who helped to bring his films to life. The Big White was written by Collin Friesen, directed by Mark Mylod, starring Robin Williams, Giovanni Ribisi, Holly Hunter, Woody Harrelson, Tim Blake Nelson, and Alison Lohman. The film tells the story set in Alaska where a travel agent (Williams) is near bankruptcy. One day day he comes across a dead body in a dumpster and, in an act of desperation, decides to pass it off as his missing brother (Harrelson) in order to collect a million dollars in life insurance. As grisly as all that might sound, this film is a comedy.
