Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a fascinating exploration of a new geometrical vector algebra. Vector algebra uses directed line segments called vectors to define mathematical operations. It can be used to describe phenomena ranging from geometry to the behavior of subatomic particles. The book introduces a new twist: every vector here is a physical stepper as well as a mathematical operator, and every vector expression corresponds to a physical configuration. The author, a mathematician, presents their new algebra alongside the history of science, to anchor the work in the broader context of our understanding of geometry and algebra over time. The result is not only a new view of vector algebra, but also a new lens through which to view phenomena across the physical sciences. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. Later printing. Boards show only light shelfwear; binding tight; pages are clean but seem a bit brittle and show edge toning throughout; title page is detached and laid in. Inscribed by Bishop across front endpaper: 'To my dear friend James Howard Bridge. The town used as a basis for local color in this book was Milwaukee, Wis. Almost needless to say the events as described did not take place there - nor anywhere else. But by an odd coincidence, as if the story had possibly drawn the attention of the elements in that direction, the golden justice, in the court-house, was struck by lightning and thrown down - not by a tornado - very many years after the publication of the book,' and dated New York, April 10th, 1915. Opposite, Bishop has amended his 'Complete List of Books' to note that two of his novels had been republished under different titles. The next page has Bishop's tipped-in business card, several years out of date (he was American consul in Palermo 1905-10), with 'Off for my summer home in Brooklyn, Connecticut.' Bridge was a well-connected journalist who at the time was president of the Authors Club of New York and private secretary to industrialist Henry Clay Frick; this book was part of a collection of books, manuscripts, and letters that the Authors' Club sold in May 1915 to benefit Belgian victims of the ongoing European war. 'The Golden Justice' was originally published in 1887. Bishop's signature is surprisingly uncommon considering he was a prolific novelist, and of course such a presentation copy is unique. 393 pages + three pages of publisher's listings. Inscribed by Author(s).…
