Hardcover. Condition: New. iv, 81 pages : illustrations (some color), maps (some color) ; 29 cm. Global sea-level rise increased during the twentieth century from 1.5 to 3.0 mm/yr and is expected to at least double over the next few decades. The Western Louisiana and Texas coast is especially vulnerable to sea-level rise due to low gradients, high subsidence, and depleted sediment supply. This Memoir describes the regional response of coastal environments to variable rates of sea-level rise and sediment supply during Holocene to modern time. It is based on results from more than six decades of research focused on coastal and nearshore stratigraphic records. The results are a wake-up call for those who underestimate the potential magnitude of coastal change over decadal to centennial time scales, with dramatic changes caused by accelerated sea-level rise and diminished sediment supply. Contents: Introduction Study area. Sea-level history Data sets and methods. Radiocarbon dating Results. Late Pleistocene coastal evolution. MIS 5-2 sea-level fall and lowstand ; MIS 2-1 transgression. Sand banks ; Offshore Trinity and Sabine incised river valleys ; Coastal Trinity, Sabine, and Calcasieu valleys ; Western Louisiana Chenier Plain ; East Texas Barrier system ; The Brazos Colorado fluvial-deltaic systems ; The central Texas coast ; The south Texas coast Discussion. Vintage studio still publicity photograph of actress Constance Talmadge from the 1927 silent film. With a printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso. Talmadge, sister of actresses Norma and Natalie, starred in her first major role in D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" (1916). Unlike her sisters, Constance preferred to appear in light romantic comedies, such as "A Pair of Silk Stockings" (1918), "Wedding Bells" (1921), and "The Primitive Lover" (1922). Although many of her films are now considered lost, Talmadge is now best remembered for originating the tradition of preserving footprints in concrete outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre after accidentally stepping into wet concrete in front of the theatre in 1927. As with many silent film stars, her career faded with the advent of sound film, and by the 1930s, she and her sisters had retired from the screen. 7.5 x 9.75 inches. Very Good plus, with a small chip to the bottom left corner, lightly and evenly toned overall.

Vintage reference photograph taken on the set of the 1923 epic silent costume film, here showing actress Pola Negri enjoying a lunch break with director Herbert Brenon and actor Antonio Moreno. Mimeo snipe and Famous Players-Lasky stamp on the verso. Based on the 1844 play "Don Cesar de Bazan," which was in turn loosely based on Victor Hugo's 1938 play "Ruy Blas." Love develops between a Romani fortune teller and a wealthy Spanish count, to the chagrin of the King of Spain. Hot on the heels of Mary Pickford's "Rosita," also released in 1923. Set in Spain. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus, lightly toned.
