In the publisher's original cloth binding.A limited edition of this work, being number ninety-three of two hundred and five numbered copies.Born in Odessa, William Walcot was a Scottish architect, graphic artist and etcher, best known for his Art Nouveau work in Moscow. In the 1920s and 1930s, he concentrated on graphic art and was praised as 'the best architectural draftsman' in London.Illustrated throughout with 65 reproductions of his etchings and watercolour of which there are thirty-five full plates, including with six colour plates, including a colour frontispiece. Collated, complete.With an introduction from British architect and garden designed Sir Reginald Blomfield. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. White vellum spine, black paper covered boards. White paper label with black lettering to front cover. Oblong format, 8.75ins x 10.5ins, unpaginated. Comprises 2 blank pages after the endpapers, an illustration of a stonemason, title page with two vignette illustrations, 2pp text, 13pp illustrations,2pp text, 9pp illustrations, list of recent marble contracts, vignette "finis" page, 2 blank pages. All pages printed on recto only. Of the 22 illustrations 16 are by Walcot and 6 by Brangwyn. They depict the Italian quarries and the firms Kennington works. Small stain to the base of the front pastedown and front free endpaper. Vellum spine darkened. Small (one inch ) split to edge of spine. Boards rubbed to corners. Pinprick hole to paper label.
