Ownership information on flyleaf and title page, in pencil. No other known marginalia. Chapters include an introduction to science, the earth in relation to the universe, celestial appearances, the atmosphere and its phenomena, atmospheric phenomena dependent on the distribution of heat, phenomena dependent on the distribution and conditions of light, phenomena dependent on terrestrial magnetism, the interior of the earth, land and water, and the superficial temperature of the earth. William Mullinger Higgins (1808-1882) was a fellow of the Geological Society and a lecturer on natural philosophy at Guy's Hospital. Hardcover, good condition. 408 pages, 18mo.
