Seine Frau war eine Tochter des Frankfurter Malers Jakob Becker (1810-1872) und betätigte sich im Frankfurter Kulturleben. Mohn studierte seit 1860 an der Dresdner Akademie, von 1861-1866 war er Schüler Adrian Ludwig Richters (1803-1884). 1866 besuchte er gemeinsam mit seinem Studienfreund Albert Venus (1842-1871) Rom, wo sie mit einem weiteren ehemaligen Studienkollegen, Carl Wil-helm Müller (1839-1904), zusammentrafen und die Campagna durchstreiften. Weitere Auf-enthalte in Italien folgten in den nächsten Jahren. Zusammen mit Venus begleitete er Richter im Sommer 1868 auf einer Reise durch Böhmen. Provenienz: Nachlassstempel V.P. Mohn (Lugt. Suppl. 1817a). Das Blatt zeigt eine für Mohns sonstige zeichnerische Strenge ungewöhnlich malerische Auffassung. Mohn studierte… seit 1860 an der Dresdner Akademie, von 1861/66 war er Schüler A.L. Richters (1803-1884). 1866 besuchte er gemeinsam mit seinem Studienfreund A. Venus (1842-1871) Rom, wo sie mit einem weiteren ehemaligen Studienkollegen, C.W. Müller (1839-1904) zusammentrafen und die Campagna durchstreiften. Weitere Aufenthalte in Italien folgten in den nächsten Jahren. Mit Venus begleitete er Richter im Sommer 1868 auf einer Reise durch Böhmen. Seit 1869 übernahm er nach dem Vorschlag Richters, dessen Tätigkeit durch ein Augen- und Nervenleiden stark beeinträchtigt war, die Stellvertretung von dessen Landschafterklasse, 1876 wurde er sein Nachfolger. 1874 wurde Mohn Professor an der Dresdner Akademie, zog dann 1883 nach Berlin, wo er insbesondere mit Aufträgen für Wandmalereien beschäftigt war. 1897 veröffentlichte er seine erste Biographie über seinen Lehrer Richter. 1905 wurde er Professor der dortigen Königlichen Kunstschule. Die National-Galerie Berlin, das Museum des Geschichtsvereins Meißen und das Stadtmuseum Bautzen besitzen Bilder von ihm.
