Getulio Vargas was a Brazilian politician, who served as both president and dictator during his lifetime, serving Brazil for a total of eighteen years. He was often nicknamed "Father of the Poor". These four volumes are Vargas" explanation of the new Brazilian politics in the years between the First and Second World Wars, documenting from 1930 to 1937. His rise to power marked the end of the Brazilian Old Republic, which ended with the Brazilian Revolution of 1930. It was his ambition to turn Brazil into one of the leading countries of the world, aiming to set up the necessary infrastructure. Vargas killed himself in 1954 after mounting pressures and conflict over his political methods, but has remained to be considered one of the most influential politicians of the twentieth century. Rear hinge of Vol II strained but remains firm. All volumes have "Offerta da Editora" stamps to the recto of the front endpaper. Light offsetting to the recto of the front endpaper to Vol IV and Vol II, with Vol II having some marking to the front paper wrap. Internally, generally firmly bound with Vols I, II and V being slightly strained. Pages are bright and generally clean, with just the odd spot throughout.
