Herbert and Agnes Mary Valentine lived at Workington on the Cumbrian coast. Mr Valentine was an Ironmaster at the Steel Works and was the son of a…one-time Conservative MP for that town. His wife, a trained artist, was a member of the Housman family and a cousin of Laurence and A E Housman. The Valentines wrote and illustrated this humourous account of their annual holidays in Lakeland in a style reminiscent of Jerome K Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat', a book they had obviously read and enjoyed. Owner's Name inside; Large. Gift inscription on first page, dated 1979. 78 pages.
