In the last century a lot of research work regarding the Indian lichens has been done by the European and Indian lichenologist. However there is no single booklet or field guide of lichen is written for the amateur naturalist. Lichens are among the most widely distributed plant organism in the world. To date there are about 20 000 lichen species known in the world out of which Indian subcontinent is represented by 2 450 species. Few professional lichenologist only know about this unique creation of nature. Thus the present booklet is an experiment to popularize the lichens among wide audience of this country. A field guide can serve its purpose only if it is small. Therefore only 25 common lichen taxa of the park are included for making the guide handy and unexpensive. The colour illustrations are included since colour is an important feature in identification of lichens. The colour illustrations are enlarged enough to give a good idea of the different taxa. 41 pp.

The present book is the outcome of an extensive collection and critical investigation of more than 5 000 parmelioid specimens preserved in different herbaria of India representing all the phytogeographic regions of the country. A detailed study of this group shows greatest diversity of commonly growing lichens in India. Till date there has not been any comprehensive account on the parmelioid lichens in India is so far available. Keeping this in view the authors have tried to fulfil this lacunae by bringing out the book Parmelioid lichens in India. The present work includes systematic account of 192 species belonging to 22 genera with coloured photographs scanned pictures of TLC plates for secondary metabolites of each species current nomenclature key to the genera and species. For each species basionym synonyms information on type collection detail description chemistry remarks variation habitat and altitudinal distribution within and outside India along with maps are provided. Glossary of botanical names and terms used in the text are also provided. The important morphological characters to delimit genera and species along with scientific illustrations and scanning electron microscopic pictures are given in the general account. The conservation status of parmelioid lichens is also discussed. Extinct endangered vulnerable and endemic taxa are also listed. Eight localities are proposed as Lichen sanctuaries for the country owing to their luxuriant parmelioid flora. It is hoped that the present work covering various aspects of the parmelioid lichens will be of immense interest to students scientists teachers and other interested to peruse research particularly on the parmelioid lichens in India and world in general. 488 pp.

Hardcover. Condition: Wie neu. privately owned book. as new from the publisher. remains wrapped in plastic. - This book discusses in detail molecular, mycobiont culture, biomonitoring and bioprospection of lichens, providing insights into advances in different fields of lichenology by applying modern techniques and approaches and examining how their application has enhanced or changed classical approaches. It offers a valuable resource, especially for beginners, students and researchers from different academic backgrounds interested in the study of lichens. In recent years, the introduction of modern analytical techniques and approaches has significantly improved our understanding of the environment, including lichens. Lichens are unique organisms which possess untapped potential as effective and reliable bioindicators, sources of therapeutic phytochemicals, and as excellent extremophiles. The unique and peculiar characteristics of lichens underline the need for a multidimensional approach to explore their potential in various fields of environment science, botany and chemistry.Modern techniques, especially molecular techniques, have greatly enriched the field of lichen taxonomy and its position in the plant kingdom, revealing little-known species and exploring their evolutionary history, while multivariate analysis and GIS approaches have established lichens as an ideal and reliable tool for monitoring air pollution. Advanced culture techniques have expanded the pharmacological applications of lichens, which was formerly restricted due to their small biomass. The advent of sophisticated analytical instrumentation has now facilitated the isolation and characterization of lichens' bioactive constituents, even in lower concentrations, as well as the estimation of their stress responses at different levels of pollution. As lichen diversity is adversely affected by increasing air pollution, there is a pressing need to develop effective management practices to conserve, restore and document lichen diversity. 284 pp. Englisch.
