24 x 16,5 cm Paperback. Cloth. Condition: Like New. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Type: Book Pregnancy represents an allograft in so far that half of the antigens are foreign to the mother. Therefore, a bidirectional interaction between the maternal and the fetal immune systems must exist, which could be disturbed by preexisting autoimmune liver diseases. Since nowadays autoimmune liver diseases are increasingly detected as early stage diseases due to modern diagnostic procedures, e.g. in women of childbearing age, and since the number of posttransplant pregnancies has become an issue due to improved survival, questions concerning pregnancy, autoimmune liver disease and treatment options with bile acids and/or immunosuppressants are of an ever-increasing interest. This book, the proceedings of a Falk Workshop held in Freiburg, Germany, on June 2, 2002, is certainly unable to give any definite answers to any of the hundreds of still remaining questions in this fascinating field, but hopefully it will help to stimulate and initiate cooperation among immunologists, bile acid researchers, gynaecologists and internists.N.B.D/J spine slightly faded with slight mark to base of d/j spine.80pp.
Cloth. Condition: Like New. Dust Jacket Condition: Like New. Type: Book On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Dr. Herbert Falk an international symposium was held in Freiburg, Germany, on 16-17 October 2004. The aim of the meeting was to look back, to assess progress made and to look forward speculating on the development of the field of gastroenterology and hepatology. The symposium was divided into four parts: oesophagus and stomach, liver, pancreaticobiliary tract, and small/large bowel. Internationally renowned speakers contributed to the symposium, many of them also contributed to this book. The organizers of the symposium hope that this volume will maintain the memory of a remarkable meeting in honour of an even more remarkable person. 329pp.
