Paperback. Condition: New. The original Northern Powerhouse, Newcastle upon Tyne has witnessed countless transformations over the last century or so, from its industrial heyday, when Tyneside engineering and innovation led the world, through decades of post-industrial decline, and underinvestment, to its more recent reinvention as a cultural destination for the North. The ten short stories gathered here all feature characters in search of something, a new reality, a space, perhaps, in which to rediscover themselves: from the call-centre worker imagining herself far away from the claustrophobic realities of her day job, to the woman coming to terms with an ex-lover who's moved on all too quickly, to the man trying to outrun his mother's death on Town Moor. The Book of Newcastle brings together some of the city's most renowned literary talents, along with exciting new voices, proving that while Newcastle continues to feel the effects of its lost industrial past, it is also a city striving for a future that brims with promise.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Begin Where You Are: The Colorado Poets Laureate Anthology is a book of firsts. It is the first ever US state poet laureate anthology. It is the first poetry collection featuring all ten Colorado poets laureate (the second oldest state poet laureateship, established in 1919). And it is the first place readers can discover unpublished poems by Andrea Gibson--bestselling author and one of the most influential spoken word artists of our generation. This book contains celebrated works from Thomas Hornsby Ferril and others, alongside never-before-published pieces from Bobby LeFebre, Joseph Hutchison, David Mason, and Mary Crow. Contemporary poets offer perspectives on how serving as Colorado poet laureate shaped their writing and worlds. Spearheaded by award-winning social entrepreneur Turner Wyatt, this book is a movement with a mission: A portion of the proceeds will fund poetry programming in underserved Colorado schools, libraries, and rural areas, making each purchase an investment in expanding access to this essential art form. Featured poets: Andrea Gibson, Bobby LeFebre, Joseph Hutchison, David Mason, Mary Crow, Thomas Hornsby Ferril, Milford E. Shields, Margaret Clyde Robertson, Nellie Burget Miller, Alice Polk Hill Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover. 8 3/4" X 5 5/8". xii, 196pp. Ex-Georgia State University Library, with stamps, bookplate to front pastedown, and remnants of barcode tags to spine and rear board. Green pictorial paper over boards. Mild edgewear and dust soiling to sound, firm binding. Occasional highlighting, notations, and underlining to pages throughout. Julia Turner (1863-1946) founded the Medico-Psychological Clinic with fellow psychoanalyst and suffragist Jessie Murray in 1913. The Medico-Psychological Clinic was the home of the first psychoanalytic training program in Britain and, though rather forgotten today, had a substantial impact on psychoanalysis in Britian, training such figures as Sylvia Payne, Nina Searl, Ella Freeman Sharpe, Marjorie Brierley, and Susan Sutherland Isaacs. After Murray's death in 1920, Turner and James Glover directed the clinic together, but only briefly. Turner's interest in Jungian ideas conflicted with Glover's dedication to pure pyschoanalysis, resulting in Turner's departure to found the Psychological Aid Society in 1921.
