La prefazione è di Gino Arias, sociologo ed economista, fautore dell'economia corporativa, da ultimo colpito dalle leggi razziali. L'economista Tullio Martello (1841-1918), fu garibaldino e partecipò alla battaglia di Milazzo; di idee pacifiste e democratiche, fu deciso avversario del socialismo. Di famiglia borghese, dopo i primi studi Tutllio Martello seguì gli ideali patriottici partecipando alla seconda guerra di indipendenza e in seguito alla spedizione dei Mille di Garibaldi, col quale rimase amico. Laureato in matematica a Napoli, studiò anche ingegneria a Torino, ma non terminò il corso. A seguito di alcuni problemi causati da nuovi incarichi ministeriali (esproprio dei beni ecclesiastici), si trasferì in Svizzera, entrò in contatto con importanti esponenti della Massoneria italiana ed ebbe modo di seguire le lezioni del Prof. Vilfredo Pareto. Si appassionò agli studi economici, scrisse articoli e fondò una rivista economica: storia, economia e statistica furono gli interessi principali dei suoi lavori e del suo insegnamento. Rientrato in Italia, sostenne il liberismo economico - cosa che gli procurò non poche inimicizie - insegnò alla scuola superiore di Commercio a Venezia, fu docente di economia politica a Padova e a Bologna, dove seguì le orme di Francesco Ferrara. Autore di numerose pubblicazioni di argomento storico ed economico ma anche di commedie Martello è annoverato tra i grandi economisti italiani. -- Alberto Giovannini (1882-1969), Ğaffezionato scolaroğ e in seguito Ğdevoto e caro amicoğ di Tullio Martello, già nel 1903 divenne docente di economia politica all'Università Popolare di Bologna. Liberale nelle idee ed in politica, fu deputato tra il 1922 ed il '24, docente all'Alma Mater di Bologna e poi ministro, sotto De Gasperi, tra il '48 ed il '50. Sostenitore, come il suo maestro, del liberismo in economia, fondò e diresse la rivista ĞLa Libertà Economicağ e collaborò con ĞIl resto del Carlinoğ.
