Diese Unternehmen vereint die Tatsache, dass sie sehr hohe Geldbeträge offerieren, um als Sponsoren bei diesem Sportereignis präsent sein zu können. In den kommenden Wochen werden sich die oben genannten Firmen durch eine immense Medienpräsenz auszeichnen und bei der WM eine dominante Rolle in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung spielen. Diese großen Firmen treten aber nicht nur bei der Fußball-WM als Sponsoren auf, sondern auch bei den olympischen Spielen, sowie bei nationalen und internationalen Meisterschaften und Pokalen in allen Bereichen des Sport, aber auch bei Veranstaltungen mit beispielsweise wissenschaftlichem oder kulturellem Hintergrund findet man sie als Geldgeber. Die Studie Sponsor Visions 2010, die seit 2000 vom Marktforschungsunternehmen TNS Infratest durchgeführt wird, prognostiziert für 2010 ein Ausgabevolumen voncirca 4,2 Milliarden Euro im Bereich des Kommunikationsinstruments Sponsoring. Es gibt bereits Literatur, die sich mit dem Thema des Krisenmanagements in Sportbetrieben beschäftigt (Wadsack et al. 2006) oder die Krisenstrategien für Sportvereine und Sportverbände aufbereitet (Rohlmann 2010). Hierbei ist jedoch die zentrale Betrachtungsweise die Sichtweise der Verbände, Vereine oder der Sport-betriebe. Es wird kaum dargestellt, welche Wirkungen Krisen auf Sportsponsoren haben, wie diese damit umgehen können, inwieweit deren mit dem Sponsoring verbundenen Ziele ge-fährdet sind und welche Möglichkeiten es für sie gibt, Krisen zu vermeiden oder zumindest zu steuern und zu kontrollieren.
