This book records how they helped shape and define today's shooting sports activities. Both companies provided components or finished ammunition to the military (from the Spanish-American War through the Korean War) and sportsmen for well over a half-century. Additionally, their inventions and developments in the industrial blasting powders made work safer and more efficient for miners and builders. Later, the ammunition company was incorporated into what is today the Remington Arms Company, Inc. The Peters Cartridge Company invented an automatic cartridge-loading machine (still used today) and was the first to introduce automatic machine-loaded cartridges as an article of commerce. Peters loaded some of the most accurate cartridges of all time. The King Powder Company introduced the famous and still-lamented Semi-Smokeless powder. King also invented, manufactured and delivered explosives used by the heavy construction, oil and mining industries.
