Zweisprachiger Druck (Altgriechisch-Latein) der seltenen Tatian-Ausgabe in zwei Kolumnen auf starkem Papier und hervorragender Typographie. Eingeschoben die 27seitige "Dissertatio in Tatianum". - [II]: Barbier IV, 1378. Graesse VI, 351. Bibl. Hulthem III, 16466. - An Tatians berühmte Streitschrift gegen die Griechen angebunden findet sich der klandestine Druck "Sibylla Capitolina". Diese Gegenschrift ("Satyre assez ingenieuse", Bibl. Hulthem) des reformierten französischen Theologen und Philosophen Petrus Daudé (1654-1733) war pseudonym erschienen und richtete sich gegen die umstrittene Bulle "Unigenitus dei filius" von 1713, mit der Papst Clemens XI. auf Drängen König Ludwigs XIV. den bereits im 17. Jahrhundert zur Häresie erklärten Jansenismus erneut verurteilt hatte. Innerhalb der ersten sechs Jahre nach Abfassung der Bulle hatten die meisten kirchlichen Sympathisanten des Jansenismus Frankreich verlassen und sich in Belgien oder den Niederlanden niedergelassen. Die vorliegende Schrift mit fingiertem Oxford-Sheldon Impressum wurde vermutlich in Amsterdam gedruckt (die Titelvignette von B. Picart spricht ebenfalls dafür) und setzt sich aus Vergil-Fragmenten zusammen, die zusammen mit der umfangreichen Interpretation am Fuß der Seite den satirischen Gehalt des Werks ausmachen. Der Verfasser Daudé war in jungen Jahren nach England ausgewandert und hatte möglicherweise intimere Kenntnisse der dortigen Buchdruckereien. - Zum Drucker von [I]: Das Sheldonian Theatre wurde vom Erzbischof Canterburys, Gilbert Sheldon, der gleichsam Kanzler der Universität war, aus eigenen Mitteln erbaut und 1669 eröffnet. Es diente unter anderem der Vergabe von Diplomen und beherbergte eine Druckpresse, die unter anderem für die Oxford University Press genutzt wurde (LGB VII, 74). Der akademisch hochrangige Druckort und die Streitschrift Tatian boten sich wohl als fingiertes Impressum für die antipäpstliche Satire an, deren typographische Gestaltung deutlich hinter der des vorgebundenen Werks zurücksteht. - Lateinische Notiz alter Hand, den angebundenen Text betreffend, mit Tinte auf dem Vorsatz ("Satyra satis ingeniosa"). - Der schöne Halbpergamentband nur leicht angeschmutzt und in überaus erfreulichem Zustand. Kopfschnitt leicht angestaubt und vorderes Innengelenk minimal gelöst, sonst innen tadellos. Insgesamt sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - In dieser Kombination besonders interessanter und reizvoller Sammelband. la Gewicht in Gramm: 1001 8° (20,5 x 14 cm). Schöner Halbpergamentband der Zeit mit mehrfarbig geädertem Kleisterpapier-Bezug und rotgefärbten Schnitten. [Hardcover / fest gebunden].
