Hardcover. Condition: New. Language: English. The most significant agent of radical politics in Meghalaya is the CPI which is one of the oldest political parties in the country. From its very inception, the CPI claims to have championed the cause of the tribal people and stood for safeguarding their identity. Nevertheless, the C…PI has not been able to achieve any significant breakthrough in the politics of Meghalaya. The CPI has contested all the assembly elections held in Meghalaya so far without achieving any success. This gives rise to a number of questions, viz., what is the relevance of the CPI in the political scenario of Maghalaya? What are the main impediments faced by the party in pursuing its radical politics in Meghalaya? And so on. The book examines some of these questions for an understanding of the reasons behind the failure of radical politics in Meghalaya and also seeks to assess whether such politics has any future prospects in the state. About The Author: Susmita Sen Gupta teaches Political Science in the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. She had a brilliant academic career, holding positions in all public examinations. She stood 1st Class 1st in the M.A. Examination of NEHU, Shillong and was awarded a gold medal. She was felicitated at a Toppers' Reception hosted by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. She later earned the degrees of M.Phil. and Ph.D. from NEHU. She has done intensive research on the party system in India, regionalism, student movement, coalition politics, women and politics, ethnicity in the context of the tribal societies of North East India, politics of migration, globalization and so on. Her publications include a number of research papers on the above mentioned areas of Political Science in various regional and national journals and books. Her book titled Regionalism in Meghalaya was published in 2005. She is deeply interested in Indian classical music and had a training in vocal music. The Title 'Radical Politics in Meghalaya: Problems and Prospects written/authored/edited by Susmita Sen Gupta', published in the year 2009. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Wastewater discharged from the dye-houses can be one of the biggest contributors to aquatic pollution. Most of the dyes are synthetic in nature and are usually possessing aromatic rings in their structure, which makes them carcinoge…nic and mutagenic. During the last few years, adsorption and photo-catalytic degradation became very popular and promising technologies for treatment of waste water spiked with dye pollutants. The present works was designed to prepare N-doped Titania photo catalyst from 15% TiCl3 and 25% aqueous NH3 solution as precursor. The material was characterised by XRD, TEM, DRS, XPS, BET surface area measurement and has been used for the removal of three dyes, namely, Acid Blue 25, Metanil Yellow and Orange II from aqueous solution. The experimental parameters, viz., N-TiO2 dose, initial dye concentration as well as solution pH influenced the adsorption and decolourisation processes. The adsorption process followed Lagergren first order kinetics while the modified Langmuir-Hinselwood model was suitably fitted for photocatalytic decolourisation of the dyes. COD study revealed ~90% mineralisation of the dyes in 360 min of irradiation. 100 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The tremendous increase in the use of heavy metals over the past few decades has inevitably resulted in an increased flux of metallic substances in aquatic environment. The elimination of heavy metals from wastewater is of utmost im…portance to protect public health. Adsorption process is promising in this regard as it achieves higher level of removal over a wider range of solution concentrations and generally reduce the quantity of solid residual that need to be disposed of. The present work has been designed for using natural and modified clays as adsorbents with the objectives, namely (i) to prepare adsorbents from kaolinite and montmorillonite clays by intercalating with polyoxo and quaternary ammonium cations, and by acid treatment (ii) to use the adsorbents in batch processes for removing toxic metal cations from water (iii) to make a thorough study of the kinetics of adsorbate-adsorbent interactions (iv) to test the validity and applicability of different adsorption isotherms to find out adsorption affinity and adsorption capacity of the clays (v) to determine the relevant thermodynamic parameters for all clay-metal interaction. 692 pp. Englisch.
