In 1900 he became interested in the problem of aiming naval artillery after witnessing a practice firing at sea. From that time he formulated his ideas for a system of firing accurately at long range, his ideas were not adopted until after the Battle of Jutland where poor gunnery accuracy was seen and the Admiralty developed his ideas for future warship gunnery. xvi, 400pp. Bound in blue buckram with the Society's emblem in gilt to upper board and gilt lettering to spine. Small bump to upper rear board. Spine strip lightly sunned.
