Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - In this companion to Narrative Designer: Fabulator Ludus, Professor Stephen E. Dinehart IV turns the frame inward. Where the first book named the player-teller, this one describes the field the player-teller stands inside. Dinehart introduces the model of Progressive Exceedance: a theory of story as emergence under pressure, in which narrative is not authored but expressed, arising when systems accumulate load beyond containment and reorganize into new form. As the originator of the Narrative Designer role in 2006 Dinehart draws on decades of craft to describe something first glimpsed as a waveform drawn on an easel at nineteen. Across fourteen essays he traces how pressure accumulates in biological, cultural, and perceptual systems; how inherited load raises the floor of each new cycle; and how the event horizon of a story arrives earlier than anyone living inside the field can perceive. The hero, the choice, the turning point: each is relocated. Responsibility distributed, it moves upstream. This is not a book about how to tell better stories. It is a book about what story already is. For game designers, theme-park architects, filmmakers, theorists, and anyone who has felt the strange weight of a moment that cannot be undone, Against Agency offers a vocabulary for what the body has always known before the words arrived. Story is not a cause. It is an effect. Pressure finds a path. The path is sometimes a blue horse.…

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. April 3, 1730. The sacred mound at Noquisi, in what will become Franklin, North Carolina. A ceremony meant to secure peace will echo for centuries. Moytoy II of Tellico is a war leader in a world already tightening around him. English traders move inland with guns and treaties. Creek raiders press from the south. French agents whisper in the west. What the Cherokee have long held together through kinship and balance now faces something new: a single man asked to speak for many towns. Declared "Emperor" by a Scottish baronet who prefers order to complexity, Moytoy becomes a point of contact for an empire that does not understand the people it seeks to manage. The title promises protection. It delivers something else. At his side stands Aganunitsi of Si'tiku, a medicine woman who carries a crystal inherited through her grandmother's line, one that shows what is coming, and exacts a price for the seeing. Emperor of the Cherokee follows the consequences of that moment across generations: how alliances become leverage, how friendship becomes policy, how sovereignty can erode without a single decisive conquest. From riverbank and council house to treaty table and ledger, the story traces a people navigating forces that do not move all at once, but do not stop. By the time the file closes in 1979, what was once spoken around the fire survives only in files. This item is printed on demand.
