    Bound in Card Cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The full set of 39 parts of the first and second supplement volumes (of the first edition of Sowerby's English Botany), all in original blue wrappers. The supplements have been bound into a two bespoke hardback boxes as seen. All are uncoloured apart from plate nos. 2593 to 2692 of which 12 hand-coloured. Each volume has over 100 finely engraved botanical plates. Two plates are folding and are partially finely hand coloured. All the original wrappers are near fine whist the wrapper of the very first issue is too small as issued. Contents clean and tight and unmarked with no foxing, inscriptions or significant marks. A near fine set of the first two supplements. See scans and email for more.

    Edition unknown, circa 1925, small 4to, 235 x 190 mm, 9¼ x 7½ inches, cloth backed boards. 12 enchanting colour plates on thick board pages including upper and lower covers. Upper cover by Sowerby (2 little girls with baby rabbits) plus 3 others by her (girls feeding robins, 2 children with ducklings, baby on mother's knee). Other artists: L.A. Govey (3, 2 of children, 1 of ducks and kitten), Angusine MacGregor (2 - baby and building blocks, baby on swing with little sisters), Nina K. Brisley (toddlers with 3 kittens), Barbara Briggs (2). Brief captions under each. Spine faded, 5 mm (¼") chips to head and tail, corners slightly worn. Very good plus, lovely bright copy of uncommon board book. The illustrations in the book are mostly by Millicent Sowerby but one has the name Hettie Margetson and another Augustine Mcgregor. RARE. Only one copy found at WorldCat (OCLC) the worldÕs largest library catalogue. This was at Trinity College Dublin but sadly is marked as 'Lost.' Very good indeed. Excellent condition. No inscriptions.
