Paperback. Condition: new. Art, Zal; Smith, Raleigh (illustrator). Paperback. D-only ever called by a single letter-has been trained to listen. Her orders: scout, report, survive. But when a scouting run unearths a ragged group of refugees, D's quiet, controlled world breaks open. Stripped of support and forced to act alone, she drags the wounded back toward the bunker only to find the council already closing ranks, rumors spreading like wildfire, and a conspiracy that reaches deeper into the sealed archives than anyone suspected. D faces a council that hides history, a scientist who wants data more than people, and a pair of brothers whose loyalties might kill them all. The city above hides answers, but it also hides enemies and allies alike. To save one friend, D will have to break into a world her bunker lies to protect-and risk being branded a traitor by the people she calls home. For readers who love morally complex survival stories and tight, mission-driven pacing, this is a novel about listening-and about what happens when the world finally answers back.
