Hardcover. Condition: Good. Six volumes of Gibbon's famous history published by J. M. Dent & Co., in their Everyman series of books - designed to make the world's Classics available to a wide readership. Undated but basic research suggests a range of dates from 1910 to 1929. The rather impressive endpaper illustrations (see example image) by Reginal Knowles are dated 1905 but this was presumably used for many subsequent editions of the Everyman books. The books' format (external and internal) is the same i.e. red cloth with the publisher's colophon on the upper board, plus full gilt spine with a filigree of flowers, stems and leaves running along the spine below the title. Condition - all the volumes are essentially in a very sound state, and in a similar condition, so the following comments apply to all; unless stated otherwise. The red cloth remains bold - other than for vol. one where it has faded in places. (There is also some pencil scribbling in this book). Mild to moderate tanning throughout with occasional foxing. Vol. four has some fading of the cloth covers; plus red ink marks internally in places (see image). 16mo. For further information and photos e.t.c please contact us. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request a payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International. Abe2547.
