A set of facsimile publications of the 1874 original elegant typography, (drop capitals, marginal references etc) bound in appealing but understated maroon boards with gilt titles. Vols I-III commence (opposite the title pages) with facsimile examples of handwritten notes by the author, the Bishop of Dunkeld; with that in volume one being a fold-out page (image). Condition (external and internal) is remarkably similar: generally in a very sound condition, tight binding, occasional hints of tanning (possibly the nature of the paper selected by the publisher, rather than the effects of the passage of time). Small circular mark half-way down the spine of vol. II. pp. clxxxii (Biographical Introduction), 154 (Vol. I), pp. 318 (Vol. II), pp. 373 (Vol. III), pp. 356 (Vol. IV)/16mo (all).
