First edition. 6 pages of titles and Index, the illustrated cover for issue no.1 which is detached, then 480 pages. The book is bound in the original purple half-leather, over purple, white and green cloth covered boards, showing the emblem of the W.S.P.U. and lettered in gilt, the spine has loss to both ends and is splitting at the hinges and the corners are bumped and scuffed, the boards are somewhat marked, bumped and rubbed. The text block is age browned and slightly marked, with cracking at points, and some small chips and closed tears to the edges of the earlier and later pages, which are becoming brittle. Contains issue nos. 1 to 29, the first 7 monthly, becoming weekly from issue no. 8 onwards. The first bound volume of the famous suffragette newspaper, a somewhat battered and fragile example, however quite uncommon in an original unrestored binding.
