Though some of the pictures are Samivel's, most by far are Audrain's and with the author's incisive text, they present ancient Egypt in a new perspective. In his forty page essay and annotations for the plates, Samivel covers the reaches of Nile civilization from the delta and the pyramids to Abu Simbel and the second cataract and imbues Egyptology with his own well thought out and original theories.
