Paperback. Condition: New. In December 1941 a Japanese battalion of 143rd Regiment of 55th Division crossed the Burma-Siam border and seized Victoria Point, heralding the invasion of Burma. The first air raids on Rangoon were opposed by only two fighter squadrons - 16 P40s of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) and 16 Buffaloes o…f the RAF. What followed was a fighting retreat as the British forces struggled to the Indian border, harried by an experienced Japanese force which was supported by at least 200 aircraft against the Allies' meagre fifty.Burma 1942 is a unique assessment of this disastrous episode in British military history, taken in part from the diary and maps kept by Ralph Tanner, who served with 2nd Battalion The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry during the retreat, and from the official Battalion war diary by Major Chadwick. It includes background to the mobilisation of the Battalion in 1941, who they were, their equipment and what they were trained for, and considers the series of disasters at Moulmein, Sittang, Toksan and Yenangyaung which left them increasingly unable to fight as a unit. It also addresses the factors which prevented optimum military performance, includes discussions with the author's one-time enemies, and serves as a tribute to the strength of the men of the battalion - most of whom were conscripts - and of whom a fifth were killed and have no known grave.

VERY GOOD Soft Back - as shown, 1st Edition, 1st Printing, VERY GOOD condition, shows some shelf wear and age Pics 2 & 3 show example of illustrations from LDS archives Pic 4 shows added info on this edition Pics 5 - 18 show content In this book the word "ideal" means a g…ospel standard. As such, an ideal becomes "a way to perfection," "that which inspires and directs," "something great and splendid we wish to attain." From the viewpoint of the Latter-day Saint principle of eternal progress, an ideal is always "the better beyond the best." In his 1955 Sunday School manual called "Christ's Ideals for Living," Obert C. Tanner details the importance of such gospel standards in our individual lives. Ideals are inevitable, necessary and powerful. They are selective, attainable and saving. The ideals of Christ stand supreme and help us to measure our progress in mortality. Christ's Ideals For Living is a book written by Obert C. Tanner that explores the teachings of Jesus Christ and how they can be applied to everyday life. The book is divided into chapters that focus on different aspects of Christ's teachings, such as love, forgiveness, humility, and service. Each chapter includes quotes from the Bible and other sources to illustrate the topic being discussed. The author also provides personal stories and experiences that demonstrate how these ideals can be put into practice. The book is written in a clear and accessible style, making it suitable for readers of all ages and backgrounds. Overall, Christ's Ideals For Living is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of Christ's teachings and live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. For The Sunday Schools Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the meaning of a prophecy found in the 85th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants, a foundational text for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The author analyzes the prophecy, which speaks of a "mighty and strong" individual who will come to set in o…rder the affairs of the Church and arrange inheritances for the Saints. The text also predicts that a President of the Church, who attempts to "steady the ark of God", will meet a sudden and tragic end, falling "by the shaft of death". The book explores this prophecy within the context of the Church's history, specifically its early years in Missouri. The author argues that the prophecy refers to the role of the Bishop, and that the "mighty and strong" individual is not a President, as the Church authorities have claimed. The book then examines the themes of Zion's redemption, the importance of the Celestial Laws, and the role of the Prophet Joseph Smith in the unfolding of these events. The book offers a compelling perspective on the meaning of this significant prophecy and its implications for the Church, prompting readers to consider the deeper meaning of the text and its relevance to the present day. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
