November 1918 verließen, von einer sich ums Schloss ansammelnden Menschenmenge gedrängt, ab 14:30 Uhr die um das Schloss aufgestellten Truppen ihre Posten. Nur wenige Hofbeam…te und die Kastellane blieben im Gebäude, das die abziehenden Truppen eine Stunde später den Revolutionären übergaben, und auf dem inzwischen eine rote Fahne wehte. Gegen 16:30 Uhr erschien der Spartakusführer Karl Liebknecht am Schloss und proklamierte die freie sozialistische Republik Deutschland". Anschließend ließ er sich ins Schloss führen, um vom großen Fenster des Portals IV, dem Ort der zweiten Ansprache des Kaisers, erneut die freie sozialistische Republik Deutschland" auszurufen. Kurz darauf drangen zahlreiche Menschen in das unbewachte Schloss ein und begannen mit einer Plünderung. Liebknechts Ausrufung der Räterepublik blieb folgenlos, ging aber als symbolischer Akt in die Überlieferung der Kommunistischen Partei Deutschlands (KPD) ein, zu deren Gründern er wenige Wochen später gehören sollte. - Papierbedingt teils gebräunt, insgesamt gutes Exemplar.
