Paperback. Condition: New. "Subtle yet incandescent rage shimmers everywhere in Susiraja's output. It's just one of the many reasons why her art-so mesmerizing, terrorizing, gnarly, monstrous-is incredibly beautiful." -Alex Jovanovich, ArtforumOver the past 15 years, Iiu Susiraja has taken photographs of herself in domestic sett…ings, most often in her home in Turku, Finland. Simultaneously seductive, abject, stylized and vulnerable, Susiraja's works are grounded in unabashed yet private performances for the camera. In these stagings, household objects-tablecloths, umbrellas, hot dogs, bananas, treadmills, rubber duckies and dead fish-become co-conspirators in her confrontations with the lens. Situated between the slapstick and the deadpan, Susiraja's works locate uneasiness in the comfortable, and vice versa.Published on the occasion of the artist's first US museum exhibition, Iiu Susiraja: A style called a dead fish traces the trajectory of Susiraja's practice from her earliest photographs (circa 2007) to the present. The publication also features poems by Susiraja and an essay by curator Jody Graf.Iiu Susiraja (born 1975) earned an MFA from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. She was featured as the cover story for ArtForum's February 2022 issue. Her recent solo exhibitions include MoMA PS1, Ramiken Gallery, SKMU Museum, KIASMA, Kadel Willborn Gallery, Francois Ghebaly Gallery, PS2 Gallery, VB Photographic Centre, Ramiken Crucible and Fotogalleriet Format. Her work is in public and private collections worldwide, including at the Adam Lindenmann Collection, the University of Chicago, the Rubell Family Collection, the Finnish Museum of Photography collection, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art and the Finnish National Gallery.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A new exploration of Niki de Saint Phalles colorful and compelling public structures, with archival materials and moreThis volume brings newfound attention to Niki de Saint Phalles (1930-2002) work in architecture and public sculpture, and the commercial products such as perfume and jewelry…that she produced to fund these ambitious projects.Featuring a wide selection of images of her architectural works and rarely seen archival materials, this book places these projects within the context of her larger boundary-defying practice, drawing connections with politically charged works such as the films and books she made in response to the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.Charting Saint Phalle's many efforts to radically open her practice beyond the confines of the art world, it serves as a survey of her practice from the 1960s until the early 2000s. Edited and with an essay by exhibition curator Ruba Katrib, the publication features new scholarship by Anne Dressen and Nick Mauss, Alex Kitnick, and Lanka Tattersall. Catalogue published for the exhibition organized by the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Raeunion des Musaees Nationaux-Grand Palais, with the participation of the Niki Charitable Art Foundation, Santee. Held at the Grand Palais, Galeries Nationales, Paris, France, September 17, 2014-February 2, 2015 and Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain, February 27-June 11, 2015. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
