Bound in the publisher's original red cloth with gilt spine lettering. A clean, firmly bound copy with bright boards and an unmarked interior throughout. The original dust jacket has some minor edge wear, slight rubbing and small areas of discolouration, particularly to the rear panel, together with wear at the head of the spine. The Delinquents is an Australian novel exploring juvenile rebellion, social marginalisation and young love in the conservative society of 1950s Brisbane, particularly among the youth subcultures known as "bodgies" and "widgies". Combining social realism with a sympathetic portrayal of its young protagonists, the novel received considerable critical attention upon publication. Criena Rohan was the literary pseudonym of Australian writer Deirdre Cash (1924-1963), whose promising literary career was curtailed by her premature death from cancer at the age of just 38, only a year after the publication of this debut. Written during a period of serious illness, The Delinquents established her reputation as a distinctive voice in Australian fiction. Her second novel, Down by the Dockside, appeared posthumously in 1963.
