Il revint à Paris en 1819, puis se rendit à Barcelone en 1821 pour y faire des recherches sur l'étiologie du typhus amaril. De retour à Paris, il fut nommé, en 1823, membre adjoint de l'Académie de médecine et médecin de l'hospice de Bicêtre. Il s'est surtout occupé des maladies contagieuses, de leur classification, de leur contagion et des analogies qu'elles présentent entre elles". Il évalue le pourcentage de cette masse sur le sang des saignées, laissé au repos pendant 48 H. Il estime que l'acide arsénieux rétablit l'équilibre normal entre la masse globulaire et le sérum. In this work, Rochoux became the first to demonstrate that apoplexy may result from a cerebral hemorrhage, and that in the cases he discussed, its symptoms were the result of blood from a ruptured blood vessel in the cranium.Jean André Rochoux, French physician and philosopher (Argenton-sur-Creuse 1787-Paris 1852), was a member of the Académie nationale de médecine. He spent five years becoming familiar with tropical medicine in Guadeloupe, and then in 1822 was sent by the French government to Spain to study yellow fever.
