Add to basketEncuadernación de tapa dura. Condition: Muy bien. 1ª Edición. Folio & In-8. #1 Oct 1958 - #2 Jan/Feb 1959. (Complete set). Wrappers & #1 Bound in Half brown calf. With the magazine Por, another rostrum of immediate objectives is opened: "an art and a literature that expresses the dramatic reality of the favelas (Villas miseria)"…. Despite this circumscribed formulation of purposes, Por reflected a wide panorama of the cultural activity of the moment through the works of Carlos Astrada, Leonidas Barletta, Jorge Calvetti, Agustín Cuzzani, Félix Luna, Julio Huasi, Osvaldo Dragún, Aristobulo Echegaray, Norberto Frontini , Martínez Estrada, Roberto Raschella, Lucas Demare; Floreal Mazía published a report to Bernardo Houssay, and Jorge Calvetti presents a singular sample of the creative imagination of Santiago Dabove, extraordinary and almost unpublished Argentine narrator who died in 1952. Add to basketEncuadernación de tapa blanda. Condition: Muy bien. In-8 & In-4. #1 Aug 1950 - #84 Mar/Apr 1967. (Lacks #1). Wrappers. It is important to note the extreme scarcity and distinct physical format of the earliest numbers. The first six issues were published under the title Cuadernos de Cultura democrática y popular, functioning init…ially as ephemeral militant pamphlets rather than a theoretical journal. Consequently, they were printed in a larger format with very modest typography, making surviving copiesespecially the elusive first issueexceptionally rare today. A frequently overlooked aspect of Cuadernos de Culturathe main cultural dissemination organ of the Argentine Communist Party throughout the 1950s and 60sis its literary contests. These stories allow us to revisit the magazine's axiological parameters from a new perspective, illustrating how its critical program materialized in creative practice. For instance, issue #19 (December 1954) published the four winning stories of a contest promoted since the middle of that year. First prize was awarded to Alberto Foradoria frequent contributor to the magazine's "Notes on Cinema" sectionfor his stories "The Man with the Yellow Shoes" and "Any Given Morning". Second place went to Pedro Herbstein for "Los Funes", and third place to Aisik Liúbaro from Rosario for "Dreamer, happy dreamer!". The jury comprised prestigious communist writers and intellectuals: Héctor Agosti, Raúl González Tuñón, Raúl Larra, Luis Gudiño Kramer, and Gerardo Pisarello. However, an introductory note explains that Agosti could not participate in the final decision made on September 3 in Rosario; he had been imprisoned in the Villa Devoto prison since July 14, and would not be released until the overthrow of Perón. Héctor P. Agosti was a committed Marxist essayist, politician, and journalist who served as the Secretary of Culture for the PCA. He took over the formal direction of Cuadernos de Cultura starting with issue #7, leading the publication from 1951 to 1964 (and later from 1967 to 1976). Under his leadership, the magazine spearheaded a renewal of the communist cultural universe, most notably by introducing and disseminating the work of Italian ideologist Antonio Gramsci in the region. Agosti translated Gramsci's letters in 1950 and his Prison Notebooks between 1958 and 1962, alongside publications by the CPA-linked Editorial Lautaro. Following a Gramscian orientation, Agosti's own cultural criticismin works like Echeverría (1951), For a Politics of Culture (1956), Nation and Culture (1959), and The Liberal Myth (1959)sought to link 19th-century Argentine national culture with the communist tradition of his time.
