Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Red cloth on boards with stamped gilt lettering to spine. Small book is tight, square, relatively sharp-cornered and free of markings and flaws inside and out, other than mildly faded spine and some minor foxing on a few pages towards the back. Nice frontispiece of author with tissue… guard. With an introductory note by Edmund Gosse. Robert Ernest Vernede was born in London in 1875 and was a 2nd Lieutenant with the Rifle Brigade in WW1, serving with distinction. He was also a novelist, short story writer and poet who was wounded twice in France, the second occasion leading to his death from machine gun fire on 9 April, 1917 at Havrincourt. Quite scarce.
