A "story of suspense, laid in Dublin, [with] a tragic hero, Joe Corcoran,…who has two weaknesses, jealousy and an addiction to alcohol." (No stereotypes there, no sir!) The author was a well-known stage, TV and film actor, who closed out his long career with a small role in Kubrick's BARRY LYNDON.
