Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition of the oft reprinted book. Modern quarter leather with marbled boards. Original marbled edges. Binding is Fine. Interior is Very Good or better. No interior writing, markings, folds, etc. Light foxing on one lithograph. Map has an old tape repair that can be seen causing staining at the upper right of the image provided. There are a couple of old washi (rice) paper repairs. A couple of small crease and corner tears can also be seen on the map. Interior is nearly pristine with just a few light smudges. An above average copy. Paginates: map, frontis, 421, [3 ads], 9 unpaginated plates, modern blanks. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: 1873 is the first edition. Some editions were issued without a date on the title page so sellers and librarians fell back on the copyright date of 1872. More notes: there are indeed 70 illustrations which include the map, lithos, a few small in text drawings and so on. Most plates are full pages. Later editions changed the title to "60 full page illustrations.".
