Capitan Miki è un personaggio dei fumetti creato dal trio di autori noto come Essegesse[1][2] e protagonista di una omonima serie pubblicata per la prima volta in formato striscia il 1º luglio 1951 edita dall'Editoriale Dardo[3][4]. Raggiunse un grande successo con tirature che si attestavano sulle 200.000 copie[5] arrivando a toccare nella seconda metà degli anni cinquanta 250.000 copie settimanali[6][7]. Ha avuto negli anni numerose ristampe[7][1]. Oggi è considerato un cult al pari di Blek Macigno, Pedrito el Drito, Tiramolla, Akim, Piccolo Sceriffo, Kinowa e altri eroi del fumetto popolare italiano degli anni cinquanta[senza fonte]. Storia editoriale Fa parte di una serie di personaggi di giovane età protagonisti di avventure western inaugurata nel 1948 dal Piccolo Sceriffo e che ebbe numerosi epigoni quali Il piccolo Ranger e Un Ragazzo nel Far West. All'interno di questo sottogenere western Capitan Miki esordì nel 1951 ed ebbe una lunga vita editoriale venendo pubblicato fino all'ottobre 1967[1] e venendo ristampato più volte in vari formati editoriali[7][1]. Il fumetto nacque, insieme a Il grande Blek, ad Alan Mistero e al Comandante Mark su iniziativa del gruppo EsseGesse composto dai disegnatori Giovanni Sinchetto, Dario Guzzon e Pietro Sartoris. Quando i tre autori nel 1965 conclusero il loro contratto con la Dardo le nuove avventure di Capitan Miki vennero pubblicate dalla stessa casa editrice realizzate da altri autori. I disegnatori erano Eugenio Tonino Benni su matite di Nestore Del Boccio, Bertrand Charlas, Pierre Mouchot[8] e Franco Bignotti, che terminò un'avventura lasciata a metà da Mouchot[9]. Negli anni 90 vi fu una breve produzione di storie inedite con soggetto e supervisione del solo Dario Guzzon, ultimo sopravvissuto del trio. Gli autori erano Alberto Arato per i testi e Birago Balzano per i disegni, poi affiancato da Lina Venturini, pseudonimo di Paolo Ongaro. L'ultima avventura inedita apparve sulla VII serie.
