Soft cover. Condition: Fair. Paperback Original (PBO). Scarce title that complements Gerald Frank's better-known book on this case (see our listing #006037), with a 8-page section of never-before-seen black-&-white photos in center + 176 pages. The author was a reporter for the Boston Globe, & he draws here on findings obtained…during the tape-recorded confession of the man widely thought to be the Boston Strangler, Albert De Salvo (though doubt remains if he was responsible for any more killings than the 1 he has been definitively linked to via DNA). A mass market Paperback Original from 1967 (Pyramid X-1538), this book is in Fair condition: interior is clean & unmarked save for old bookstore stamps to first page. Front cover shows slight scraping & remains of old price sticker near top edge. Pages are heavily tanned, commensurate with age. Exterior shows heavy creasing & chipping at all corners, with loss of bottom-outer corner of front cover. Nicely preserved in clear mylar protector bag Free! Our photos depict he EXACT book you will receive from us--never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.

Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. In 1844 Eliakim Littell started publishing "Littell's Living Age", a weekly literary journal. Mostly it was excerpts from works - both magazine and books - published elsewhere in the United States and Europe; in fact it may be considered as a nineteenth century precursor to "Reader's Digest", on…ly with a higher literary pretension. At times correspondents purported to share material, and sometimes there appeared original works. Sometimes there were bits and snatches of literary news; there were sundry various poems by individuals, many of whom are now mostly forgotten. PARTIAL CONTENTS : * A Rain Dream -- A Poem by William Cullen Bryant -- from the Crayon * Works of Both Napoleons -- from the Critic * The Lost Arctic Voyagers -- by Dr. Rae -- From Household Words (Dickens) * The Nile Makes Egypt -- from Osburn's Monumental History of Egypt * Mr. Gough, the Temperance Lecturer * The Pacific Railroad * The Waits - A Christmas Story -- Dublin University Magazine * John Kitto, D.D. Obituary * Lord Dudley Stuart * The Jewish Subjects of the Russian Czar (Also in Poland) -- from Tait's Magazine * A Book Review of "Israel to the World: or, the Mission of the Hebrews to the Great Military Monarchies' by W. H. Johnstone -- from Tait's Magazine * Anne of Austria, Queen of Louis XIII -- from Dublin University Magazine * The Table Talk of John Selden - review of the book published by Constable & Co. * Obituary of Dr. Routh , the Oxford Divine * History of French Society During the Revolution (Histoire de la Societé Française, &c.) - from the Athenæum * Obituary of Scottish Novelist, Miss Ferrier * Natures of Women -- from "Women as they Are"* English and French Designs * East Indian Life n Cantonment -- from Chamber's Journal * The Vestiges of Creation -- by Mr. Page -- from the Dublin Advertiser * Sir George Stephen's Anti-Slavery Recollections (in a series of Letters addressed to Mrs. Beecher Stowe) -- from The Spectator * Lamartine on Milton -- from The Literary Gazette * On the Attainment of Extreme Range from Long Guns -- by Lieutenant Colonel Parkinson -- from the United Service Magazine * Photographic Illustrations of Scripture a review -- from The Spectator * Book reviews of "The Keepsake" and Longfellow's "The Golden Legend" -- from the Literary Gazette (With excerpts in "The Keepsake" from Robert Browning * State and Prospects of Turkey -- from Mr. Kingsley's Alexandrian Lectures * Excerpt from Nisard's "Histoire des Livres Populaires - - from the Press * Climate of British Guiana * Excerpts from the Memoires d'Alex. Dumas - from the New Quarterly Review TITLE : Littell's Living Age, Second Series No. 99 ISSUE : No. 561 DATE : February 24, 1855 EDITOR : Eliakim Littell IMPRINT : Littell , Son & Co., Tremont Street, Boston , & Broadway, New York PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION : Volume pages four pages of front material (period advertising) plus pages [449] - 512, (64 pages); approx. 6 1/4" x 9 1/2" ; pictorial wraps, sewn and glued. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned journal, which remains solid, complete and presentable, with the following particulars noted : The edges are worn, with tears and creases, which is normal for covers with extended edges; there is general toning and weathering, scattered spotting and smudging. The spine has wear and splitting to its extremities(evidence of mending at that spot), else remains solid.
