No misty subtitle, no dramatic promise of enlightenment by Tuesday, no cover-line insisting that your life will be transformed in seven simple stages. Just Praying . There it is. The ancient human activity, state…d plainly, as though the book has quietly folded its hands and is waiting for you to stop making excuses. Published by Gujarat Sahitya Prakash, this is the kind of small spiritual volume that suggests sincerity rather than spectacle. It is not trying to compete with glossy self-help empires or shout at you from an airport bookstall. It belongs to that quieter tradition of devotional and reflective writing: modest, thoughtful, and aimed at people who suspect that prayer is less about theatrical piety and more about attention, humility, and the slow business of turning inward without immediately becoming unbearable about it. The subject, of course, is enormous. Prayer can be petition, gratitude, silence, argument, surrender, discipline, habit, comfort, or the last resort of someone who has already tried everything else, including common sense. A book simply called Praying has the pleasing confidence to step into all that without needing fireworks. It implies that the practice itself is sufficient terrain. There is also a gentle irony in books about prayer, because the moment one writes about it, one risks making words out of something that often works best when words run out. Still, that is precisely why such books exist: to help the restless, distracted, over-informed modern person approach a practice that has been going on for millennia without requiring Wi-Fi, branding, or a motivational webinar. Condition: Good, which feels apt. A prayer book does not need to be pristine. It need only have survived, been opened, perhaps pondered, and possibly placed beside a bed during one of life?s more complicated chapters. A quietly worthwhile little volume for readers interested in Christian spirituality, devotional practice, reflection, or the unfashionable but enduring art of speaking into silence and listening for something more than an echo.
