In northern France the Normandy Tribunal this is all but impossible. The wildernesses have been tamed and plowed under, the Church plants monasteries in the wastes, noble lords build castles to enforce their rule, and great cities grow up where once was nothing but fen. The magi of the Order of Hermes have adapted to living closely with mundane society in Normandy, even distributing their limited magical resources by way of contests modeled on the chivalric tournaments of the nobility. But while magic is under pressure in Normandy, it is far from dead. Ancient megaliths stud the landscape, faeries control many forests, and caves and burial mounds hide relics of the past. Demons and monsters imprisoned in ages past by saints and sorcerers stir uneasily in their confinement, and magi wield potent and spectacular magic throughout the land. The Lion and the Lily provides full details for the Normandy Tribunal, where magi must balance the demands of the nobility, cities, Church, and Tribunal.…

Product Description: The undisputed rulers of Mythic Europe are the nobility - those high-born who are bound together by sacred vows of loyalty, are supported by the land, and provide support to the Church. Lesser nobles compete for the favor of those superior to them, while great nobles seek the loyalty of those beneath them. When not distracted by the politics of landholding and of war, they hunt the mundane and magical beasts of the forests and host extravagant feasts. For the nobles of Mythic Europe are first and foremost knights in shining armor. This Ars Magica sourcebook contains complete rules and background for the nobility of Mythic Europe, ranging from the details of their lands to their entertainments, political struggles, and dealings with the Order of Hermes. And, of course, it presents special rules for combat, whether at a tournament or during a desperate siege. It also describes the hard lives of the peasants, who make the rich existence of the nobility possible by providing the food at their feasts, the labor for their buildings, and the soldiers in their armies.…

All other magicians are hedge wizards . maybe interesting to researchers, but certainly no threat. Or so magi of the Order tell each other. And most of them actually believe it. The four traditions in this book prove the folly of that complacency: The Amazons, female warrior wizards beyond the borders of Europe, harbor a deep hatred of the Order for reasons that no magus could ever guess. The Augustan Brotherhood serves as court wizards, supporting its political ends with mundane force as much as with magic discovered in the tomb of Virgil. In the icy north, the Muspelli plot to release their jotun masters and destroy the world in frost and fire. And in the distant east, the powerful Soqotran sorcerers dwell quietly on their island, staying out of politics and looking nervously at the expansionist Order. How long can the Order of Hermes maintain its pleasant illusion of superiority.…

/// Standort Wimregal GAD-30.328ua WITHIN THE EU: shipping only to GERMANY and AUSTRIA due to the new EPR regulations. Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - German History from the Margins offers new ways of thinking about ethnic and religious minorities and other outsiders in modern German history. Many established paradigms of German history are challenged by the contributors' new and often provocative findings, including evidence of the striking cosmopolitanism of Germany's 19th-century eastern border communities; German Jewry's sophisticated appropriation of the discourse of tribe and race; the unexpected absence of antisemitism in Weimar's campaign against smut; the Nazi embrace of purportedly 'Jewish' sexual behavior; and post-war West Germany's struggles with ethnic and racial minorities despite its avowed liberalism. Germany's minorities have always been active partners in defining what it is to be German, and even after 1945, despite the legacy of the Nazis' murderous destructiveness, German society continues to be characterized by ethnic and cultural diversity. …
