Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Bound in burgundy calf with blind borders and bright gilt titling and decoration to the spine. There is a gilt facsimile of Thackeray to the upper board There are gilt page edges all round. There is a burgundy silk marker. The book measures 4" wide by 6" tall. This copy is in fine condition, unmarked, bright, tight, white and square. There are burgundy endpapers. As with all Collins' Clear-Type editions this book is undated but it is believed that it was purchased sometime between 1910 and 1920. This copy came from a large collection, the property of a Lieutenant in the R.F.C. (later the R.A.F.) This is just one of this large collection of similar titles I am selling on this site. Published in 1847, William Makepeace Thackeray's Novels by Eminent Hands caricatures the works of the contemporary authors. Through this work, Thackeray presents parodies of the fiction writers of his era. His burlesque caused him to lose friendships and earned him censure for the way he meted out criticism in the work. Ref A6 3. Victor Prout (illustrator).
