Inside front has the decorative bookplate of "Thos. J Whipham" and his coat of arms, foxing to page opposite possibly due to glue used to attach the bookplate. This was one of the most important and influential works of the period, it helped the passing of the Ancient Monuments Protection Act in 1882. Contains a series of six lectures to promote the new Society for the Protection of Ancient Monuments. Contents are R.S. Poole of the British Museum, his lecture is "The Egyptian Tomb and the future state", Prof. William Blake Richmond on "Monumental Painting", Edward John Poynter the famous artist on "Some remarks on Ancient Decorative Art", architect J.T.
